Well, it’s been almost two-years since the idea behind Riot Fest was first conceived, and things that we set out to achieve are finally coming into fruition, namely, the announcement of the Riot Fest Records roster. We are very proud to announce that the first Riot Fest Records roster includes Naked Raygun, The Bollweevils and Shot Baker.

Naked Raygun: Everything that I can possibly say about this band has already been reiterated a thousand times over. But this much I will say: their music has withstood the test of time and new armies of NR fans are created on a daily basis. Unlike other bands that have reunited in the past several years, NR represents a city like no other band can—and Chicago has longed for NR’s return. Very few bands have come along since Raygun’s initial break-up in 1991 and sounded, wrote or energized an audience like they did and still can. And the saying still holds true today… “there’s no show like a Raygun show.”

We are pleased to announce that Riot Fest Records is scheduled to release NR’s first release in quite some time and it will be a DVD/CD documentary/live show. The live footage, interviews and music are amazing and the product will be a testament to NR’s influence throughout music. Also, stay tuned as we will be releasing more information about this DVD/CD and future Raygun releases. Yes, NR fans, we did not make a mistake… future Raygun releases.

The Bollweevils: No one can deny that after seeing The Bollweevils at both of their Riot Fest reunion shows that this band is just entering its prime. The Bollweevils’ style of punk has influenced a slough of bands in its wake and they’re officially back to show everyone how it’s done. And we’re absolutely stoked that they’re just as excited to be a band again as we are working with them!

Riot Fest Records and The Bollweevils will be releasing a string of albums, firstly, a live album from their Riot Fest 2006 performance that will feature new material. That’s right – The Bollweevils are heading back to the studio!! This release (Live at Riot Fest) will be out sometime this year and it’s absolutely fucking amazing. I’ve always been a huge fan of live albums, whether it be “Loco Live,” “Live at the Mid East,” or the Souls’ two-disc live album. This is on par with all of the above.

Shot Baker: In my eyes, Shot Baker is the bridge between Raygun, The Bollweevils and now. They’re everything that Chicago music should represent: grit, intelligence and an awareness of their home. Like all great Chicago punk bands, Shot Baker sounds like no other band and they have just begun to lay down their own legacy.

Shot Baker has just wrapped up recording their first RFR release. Also, because we are huge fans of Justin and his label, Underground Communique Records (and everything that they’re doing), UCR will be releasing Shot Baker’s new album on vinyl as well. With that said, plan on seeing a few musical endeavors that Riot Fest and UCR will be co-conspiring on in the near future.

Our philosophy here at Riot Fest is simple: put out great products by bands we love, manage our bands and other bands and book their tours, create a network where everyone works together, and once a year have a festival for fans around the world to realize that Chicago kicks some major ass.

2007 is going to be an amazing year for Riot Fest and I can only hope is that you guys will enjoy the ride.

Your chum,
Riot Mike
